Magdalene Santos has been a classical vocalist, choral conductor, and teacher for several years. Hailing from the state of Colorado, she received her Bachelor's degree in vocal performance from the University of Denver in 2010 and later received a graduate degree in Choral Conducting Performance from the University of Rhode Island in 2016. In between her periods of education, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the country of Moldova where she volunteered as an English teacher as well as a choral director for the music school in the town where she served. During her stay in Moldova, Mrs. Santos was asked to sing as a guest singer for a music school program and frequently sang at community events with other Peace Corps volunteers and Moldovan nationals.
Mrs. Santos has been involved in community choruses in the New England area such as the Eastern Connecticut State University Chorus and The Chorus of Westerly, While completing her graduate degree she was both a member and assistant conductor to the University Chorus, Concert Choir, and Lively Experiment group. In 2015, she had the honor of winning 1st place in the NATS (National Association for Teachers of Singing) for the aspiring artist level. Later that year, she had the opportunity to perform a lead role in the Connecticut Lyric Virtuosi Summer Program's performance of Cosi Fan Tutte where she sang the role of Fiordiligi. Mrs. Santos is still performing with the Connecticut Lyric Opera and recently sang in the chorus for their production of Eugene Onegin in the fall of 2016.
Currently, Magdalene is working in the Eastern Connecticut region as a part-time teacher at a Rhode Island high school as their seasonal music director for productions such as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Lucky Stiff, as an organist at St. Sophia's Orthodox Church in New London, CT and on the teaching staff at the Music and Arts store in Waterford, CT.
Mrs. Santos loves to teach all ages about music, singing, and piano performance. She believes in providing all people with the best opportunities to showcase their creative energies and develop as vibrant human beings.
