Act It! Tell It! Mary Jo Maichack
From Mother Goose in Person for the youngest kids to Cabaret/Great American songbook for seniors, with tons of interactive shows, workshops and residencies for k-8, I have developed dozens of themed programs for all ages--for entertainment and to integrate into your curriculum, especially language arts. You can book a show for many occasions and themes, or even a residency that engages students in extremely participatory in-class, grade-level workshops, for example, The Little Red Hen (kids act it out, all done orally, with chorus and ukulele accompaniment); the French version of the Three Little Pigs (with Pierrot costumes, chorus to ensure 100% participation, bits of French, ukulele); Why Rooster Crows at Sunrise, a Vietnamese act-it-out story with feather boa fun, wisdom and sweetness; a program of folk dances from around the world (all dance); Tiger Dances to Turtle's Tune, a Caribbean instant play by students with gorgeous headdresses; much more. You can book a mix of stories, songs, dance, movement and character/theater game activity. You can book me to teach students how to move, stand and speak on stage (all ages). Expert at connecting all this fun to literacy and language learning. Great for all, especially ELL kids. I also apply narrative techniques to "Scratch" computer animation programming for middle schoolers. Kind, funny. For pictures more information please contact Arts in CT! Listen to sound samples at CDBaby.com. Reading celebrations? Yes! Summer reading shows for libraries. Programs for museums as seen at MFA Boston, Norman Rockwell Museum. Connect to collections. Greek myths, urban legends for tweens and teens; Irish show--The Kildare Pooka; Italian tales; Wild About Wabbits; King Frost & Chilly Tales for Chilly Children; Preschool Palooza of Song & Story; Howlarious Halloween; Everybody Says Hello (tales & tunes with foreign language play); Animal Tales; Sun, Moon, Stars, Shine!; Travel the World in Tales & Tunes; The Minstrel's Revels (medieval romp); Skunk Grease & Turpentine (American West/pioneer tales & tunes); Native American Stories; The People Could Fly African-American Tales and Tunes; Nature Tales; Tales and Tunes of the Sea; Riddle Tales, more. I always give my audiences (especially young audiences lots and lots to DO at my shows). This way there is variety and activity. They really co-create the show with me.
